Something new emerged from the kiln at the Family Tree Glass studio recently… and I get to play with it first! Brian gave me a new color-changing glass incense burner, and this one has an awesome spiral design twisting down the body of the bottle. So my mission is to burn incense like a mad woman until the fume design is all colored in, and then we can get some “after” photos for everyone. For now here are some “before” pics of Brian’s latest handblown creation:
These blown glass smoking bottles are covered with pure silver fume while being shaped in the flame, and then clear glass is layered over it to make the color-changing patterns. He’s made incense burners with swirl designs. He’s made incense burners with bubble designs. (Find out more about that here.) And now I get to be the first one to see the coloring-in process on his new Spiral design! But I better get burning, because even without that “after” pic in the listing, these are already becoming a popular item!
I think it is because the design is so simple and clean, which means it took less time on the torch, which means it costs less than the other designs! And I am already in love with the deep blues and greens that are filling in beautifully. The colors change and become more vibrant when the resin from the incense smoke sticks to the inside of the glass bottle, accentuating the fume design on the outside. I am looking forward to seeing mine all filled in… and to sharing some more pics of it, of course!
This design is available now in 2 different sizes, along with our original incense burner designs. Here is a pic of one of the swirl burners that shows an example of the color change:
