In our culture there is too much shame and negativity associated with menstruation. There is nothing dirty or shameful about menstruating. We need to reclaim this sacred time for ourselves, and for our daughters. Especially for young girls who are expecting their menarche, or First Moon, an important rite of passage for all women. Let them witness us reveling in our womanhood. Let them see us enjoying this special time of healing and cleansing, when we slow down and care for ourselves.
You never forget your first period. So honor her. It doesn’t need to be an extravagant celebration, or even one that is noticeable to others. Your period is a personal time of introspection, and you can be as subtle in your revelry as you wish, so long as you are honoring your inner Goddess during this time of divine rebirth and rejuvenation. I enjoy the pampered feeling I get when I put on my favorite cloth pad, treat myself to a piece of chocolate, or snuggle up with a good book during my moontime. So I wanted to design a special necklace that would mark this special time, even in the often hectic throes of everyday life. It helps remind me to take it easy. To honor my moods, my feelings, and my intuition. Like a Red Tent that I can carry with me wherever I go, helping me feel connected to this cycle of transformation that I am so blessed to be a part of.
